Recommended Rules for the Saxton Hale Server [VSH]

Hey! I've been modding for a couple weeks at this point and noticed a couple things that we could potentially fix and add to the rules. (people refer to the rules a lot when an admin gives players warnings or does affirmative action, and claims that it wasn't specifically in the rules exactly how an admin describes it). What I'm trying to say for my main recommendation is that the rules are somewhat vague and can be twisted in a whole bunch of different ways varying on the player whom is interpreting it. I have more rules to recommend.

  • Mic music must be from a radio source (HLDJ, or other) and not from a microphone. Countless times people claiming they've been muted for no reason for playing poor quality music in their microphone, while insisting other players do it, and there's been a couple times where I had to explain that I muted them for playing poor quality music over the microphone on their phone.
  • Mic music must be kept at a reasonable volume where players are able to talk over the music. Communication is one of the best privileges about the server, being able to have a laugh with the friends you made and talking about various topics on the game or other fun topics. Music overbearing this communication shouldn't be permitted and restrains everybody's communication and hearing, overall an inconvenience for both players and communicators.
  • It should be made clear that the server is primarily an English server, but on the occasion there are some EU and Spanish players that do come on. I've been asked numerous times by numerous players to mute these people because it's apparently an "English-only" server, which I somewhat disagree on. Everybody should have a right to talk on the server, and it should be the player's responsibility and obligation to mute the players they don't want to listen to that speak in another language that we (including I) don't understand. I could clearly tell the three people that came on this one time were friends talking about weapon stats and buying things from !store, I heard key phrases in their conversation. Admins should be informed that the only reason to sm_mute or sm_gag a player is for repetitive/constant mic/chat/bind spam, overbearing volume, and racism/sexism/etc.
Actual Saxton Hale Rules
  • If the Hale (HHH/CBS/Vagi/Saxton refers to "the Hale") is AFK, he will be moved to spectate by an administrator. Reason being is it's overall game delay, and an inconvenience to the players trying to play the actual game instead of having to either wait for an administrator to slay Hale or have all players bob and blast the Hale around the map trying to kill it. I recommend some kind of plugin that moves inactive players to spectate (but does not kick from the server) because it takes time out of the maps people want to play and it's very much irritating. Take it from the guy who has had 140+ hours on the game.
  • SUICIDING AS HALE. I understand this is "frowned upon" currently, but I honestly believe there should be some form of penalty for a suicide as Hale. Once again, it's game delay, an inconvenience, and it should be the player's obligation to understand the rules and reset their queue. It's as easy as typing !halenext and slamming on 0 (zero), or typing !hale_resetq. It's stupidly easy and people take time out of everybody's game play by a suicide. The server loses it's vibe when people suicide as Hale, and we overall lose players (disconnect, quit game). I've seen 6 suicides in a row once, and it's disgusting. The only reason a player should suicide as Hale is if they need to leave and disconnect from the server. Once again, convenience and gaming satisfaction is what administrators and SG should aim for to provide. The penalty should be either a kick from the server (be able to immediately rejoin, but that will not allow the player to play the next game following) and leave in the notes of the kick something along the lines, "Do not suicide as the Hale. Type !hale_resetq to discontinue your turn as Hale. Keep checking into your queue by typing "!halenext" if you don't know when you're going to be Hale. It should be YOUR obligation to reset your turn as Hale if you do not want to be it that urgently."
  • Map exploitation. Pretty obvious one, but needs to be put in the rules. Especially for Rat's Office (the all famous cabinet), Skyhigh Resort (putting sentries mid-air), or Toys (the top of the window). Where Hale cannot super jump to.
  • Rules of RPS. People should understand that RPS means you're gambling for your victory as Hale, and shouldn't be taken lightly. I've had people yell at me previously for not slaying a Hale after RPS'ing and the Hale continued to kill a few players after RPS. It was one incident, but I don't doubt it'll happen again by immature kids. RPS (Rock-paper-scissors) should mean that the losing party of the gamble suicides or gets slain by an admin. This seriously cuts back on game time from other players waiting. Again, convenience, we want players to stay in the server and not get bored from watching Hale and players taunt partying with others. Which leads to my last and final recommendation.
  • Taunt delaying. It's fun on the occasion, I've done it myself a few times, but there have been players that do it for over minutes at a time. I once had to sit there and watch a player conga with 2 others and the Hale for 5 minutes as 25 other people sat there waiting. It's ridiculous. Maximum taunt partying should be left to a minute, and players should understand the aspect of game delay and that it takes time out of other people's game play.

But yeah, thanks to anybody that reads these. I'm still the fun-happy guy, but like I said from the beginning, I can be completely serious when I need to be. We can all make our servers a lot more happier and active place if we work on progressing forward and making things less vague to our players.

If people want to talk with each other in another language then they should use an external program, just like you would normally do if you want to privately talk with just a couple people.
Voice chat is sent to everyone, it should be at least understandable for everyone, also the rules state (voice) chat as privilege, which I personally I agree with.
To further quote from the rules:
"Music at lowered volume via the use of HLDJ or similar programs is allowed."
The programs part implies music through mic is not allowed, and lowered volume implies you should be able to talk over the music.

Suciding as hale is fixed with FF2 (if I read the patch notes correctly).
Map exploiting falls under cheating and is already illegal.
Delaying the round is something I see as common sense, anyone not doing something productive for a full minute should be warned and then slayed if they continue/repeat.
AFKing as Hale is common sense as well, same with AFKing as RED of course, but hale is more urgent.
On Orange I can move people to the other team/spectator, if that doesn't interfere with the workings of FF2 then maybe that could also be enabled on VSH, would solve the AFKer problem, right now we can only kick if needed.

As for RPS, it's an honor thing really, I'm not sure if we should enforce that.

Yeah but like I said in my very first paragraph with map exploitation, HLDJ, delaying the round, etc. These need to be things input into !rules. A lot of people refer to that when accusing an admin for "abuse". It may be in the rules, but it's very vague to the users to the point of where they're able to twist what is meant by it. Specifications should be input into !rules, because there's been tireless amounts of times where players go yelling at me for slaying them for using my fair judgement of what the rules mean, but it means something completely different for them.

If we have to specify every little detail to every single rule we'd never be finished.
You can always refer to the 'undocumented offenses' part if they want to quote the !rules

it should be the player's obligation to understand the rules
