I'd like to point out that someone on this thread said that a Blu killing themselves when a red recieves LR is against the rules (as in added). This IS a rule change. Previously it was "frowned" upon. Now, it has the potential to be a rule? Take it out. If a blu can't kill themself because they don't wanna do what the red said, then reds should be restricted from commiting suicide as well. Second, someone else said that this limits the need for admins to be on, however, that statement is flat out wrong. If someone is breaking the rules, what's gonna happen with no admins on? Nothing. There's going to be mass rebellions to try and kill the rulebreaker, after that kills. When people get killed they cry. Umbra, I don't know how long you have been an admin, and I'm assuming it's only been for a day, but you wait. You'll staert receiving calls left and right. And what happens? People call you shit. They call you a dick. They say your bad, and for what? because you took the time out of your day to go and help their cunty asses. What these rules seem to be, is a change. Which isn't something that's needed in the rules. It's what's needed with the people in the community. I like how you updated and cleaned the previous rules, specifying certain scenarios. But every NEW rules you added. Are garbage. That's the nicest way I can put it. The rules we had are fine and should remain the rules. I feel the scenarios should be added. The only reason there is so much dispute about the rules all the time is the PEOPLE in this community. THEY ARE ALL KIDS GOING THROUGH PUBERTY. Admins, they argue over rules because they think they are right. All that's fucking needed is a simple word from ASU.
Well I personally, and others have agreed, that it should become a rule. Not strictly enforced like someone re-entering, but it should not be allowed to simply let slide if the BLUs decide to kill themselves to avoid doing an LR. That's unfair, highly unfair to the one (or two) RED(s) that got to that point. If you think it shouldn't be, you're entitled to your opinion and you are welcome to share your reasons as to why this should be changed back to just being "frowned" upon, that's the point of this entire thread, to discuss. I added this rule in because plenty of people have complained to me how the BLUs would kill themselves to avoid doing an LR, simply because they dislike the person who gets LR, or because they were just dicks.
Though honestly I don't see the point in limiting REDs killing themselves just because a BLU isn't allowed to do so, what should we teamban them from going RED?
It will certainly restrict the need for admins to come on, without a doubt. Yes there will always be freekillers, or those people who read the rules, but at least now, admins will not be called on to sort out petty disputes about shit that's unclear in the rules. Maybe it'll only stop admins being called on by 5%, but I think any improvement is better than no improvement.
How long have I been an admin? That depends. This server? Less than a few hours. On Jailbreak servers? As stated I was once previously an admin on a different community some time ago, of which I helped set up and write the rules from the ground up, and enforced them tirelessly. I know what it is like to be an admin, I didn't apply to become one to make friends, I did it to help enforce the rules and try keep the JB community from tearing at each-others throats. I don't play favorites, if someone breaks the rules, they get punished, and I couldn't care less what I may be called for doing it.
The majority of all this, is not a change to rules, it's clarifying already enforced rules, and adding a few tweaks/new rules all together which, and I have stated this plenty of times, is a work in progress, I never said the whole thing was a finished product and the whole point of it coming to here is for people to discuss, and I am more than willing to discuss certain aspects of the rules and am willing to change them provided the reasoning is solid and the pros of changing rule back will outweigh the cons.
All the new rules I have added weren't entirely 'my' own rules, but rules other admins/community members feel should have been added, and I have agreed with to an extent (I didn't add any random suggestion, like no more lenny faces. I think the server would flip their shit if that were the case.) As such I am eager and willing to listen to any and all sound criticism of them. The only rule that "I" added, was the ability to kill severe mic spammers should no admin be available. I really can not find a single issue with that, I'd rather have a RED get killed for mic spamming then listen to his shit for the rest of the entire round.
Thank you for showing appreciation for the cleaning/clarification of old rules. I agree though, the only reason there's dispute about rules all the time, it's not the rules, it's the people. The TF2 community is infamous for their player base, and it is not going to change. In an ideal world, we would have a few simple rules;
Don't be a dick.
Don't be a smartass.
Have fun. (Yes, having fun is mandatory.)
But sadly, we are not in an ideal world, we are in the real world full of shitty people and, as you put it, kids going through puberty. That is why this needed to be done, and why it is necessary to have these rules scrutinized and changed before making them official.
As for all the parts put to Asu, not going to comment, but the part of "Honestly, I think some vets are mad because there are these new people getting admin and all this crap and haven't even earned the respect of the community on the forums." I agree to an extent, however I am not here for the forum community, which is full of trolls and bitching and fighting, but for the JB community, which is already full of trolls bitching and fighting. To think I need approval from one set of people to be able to moderate a completely different set of people is perplexing. So long as the job gets done and done properly, does it matter?
